About us

Being Friendly is serious business.

We’re the friend you can rely on. The one you call when you’re stuck. We’ll talk with you about your problems, tell you the truth even if it’s hard to hear, and support you when you need us.

That’s how we show up for our clients, our team, the partners we collaborate with, the people who interact with our work, and the communities that benefit from its impact.

We began in 2012 believing a small agency can make a big difference. Fourteen years and hundreds of projects later, staying small is deliberate: we’re a senior-led team with no bureaucracy between your team and ours. The same people stay with you from kickoff through launch, making Friends along the way.

Working Together

We’re your team’s best friend.

You know your organization and what’s worked (and not worked) before. We bring the process and judgment to turn your knowledge into the results that meet your needs, now and into the future.

Stakes are high, budgets are limited, and time is a precious commodity. That’s why we’ve designed our process to be strategic, inclusive, proactive, and easy for your team. Our goal is transparent communication that keeps us in lockstep from kickoff through launch and beyond.

Every project is a people project.

Solve problems as partners.

Measure outcomes, not hours.

Build work that lasts.

The new website has been amazing, and the positive response has been overwhelming. People have commented on how easy it is to use and find what they are looking for. For the communications team, it has been life-changing.

— Daniela Drandić, Head of Advocacy & Communications, International Confederation of Midwives

Friendly’s ability to translate our ideas into captivating visual elements and cohesive design concepts was spot-on. We are incredibly proud of the brand identity that Friendly has crafted for us, and it has undoubtedly contributed to our increased brand recognition and audience engagement.

— Sherri Cunningham Senior Director, Marketing, NoMa BID

Friendly is an outstanding design firm and one of the easiest I have ever worked with. They created an awesome design that was simple, clean, and provided an excellent user experience. Friendly did not just design what we wanted, they were true partners in helping us develop our app.

— Robert Norberg Co-Founder/Product Lead DocuFYI

We presented the team with a daunting project, in both scale and scope. Friendly handled it beautifully and made us feel at ease. They brought organization and attention to detail; delivered standout creative; and were constantly mindful of our business needs. They’re simply talented, dedicated, deadline-driven and fun to work with.

— Jackie Zajac Sr. Manager, Content Strategy Blackboard

We practice what we preach, but we’re not preachy. We practice what we preach, but we’re not preachy.

Our values are evident in the organizations we partner with—as well as how we run our business and treat our team.

Since 2023, we have met verified standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

We’ve donated 1% of annual revenue to environmental nonprofits every year since 2019. Recent recipients include the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, Potomac Riverkeeper Network, Yosemite Conservancy, and City Blossoms.

We don’t take fossil fuel industry work. As members, we’ve committed to that in writing.

Since 2022, we’ve been open Monday through Thursday. Rested people do better work and are proven to stay at organizations much longer. A shorter week keeps us sharp, focused, and fully present.

Because we know you’re wonderingTo answer your questions: No, we don’t work longer days Monday through Thursday. And yes, we get just as much work done.

Everyone deserves time to care for the people they love. That’s why we offer 12 weeks of fully paid leave for employees to welcome a new child into your life through birth, adoption, or fostering.

Let’s be friends.
